Terms of Service

1. Who We Are and Agreeing to These Terms

Alternative is a dating service for transgender and cisgender adults, operated by Alternative, LLC or another Alternative group company named in a regional notice. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Community Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Alternative.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use Alternative. There are no exceptions. You also confirm that you can lawfully use a dating service where you live, that you have not previously been banned from Alternative, and that you have never been convicted of a sexual offence or an offence involving violence, and are not required to register as a sex offender with any authority.

3. Your Account

You agree to provide accurate information when you create your account and to keep it accurate, to maintain only one account at a time, and to keep your sign-in credentials private. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us right away if you believe someone else has accessed it.

4. Your Content and the Licence You Give Us

You own the content you create on Alternative — your photos, videos, prompts, profile details, and messages. So that we can run the service, you grant Alternative a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for technical purposes, such as resizing or transcoding), display, and distribute your content, solely in connection with operating, providing, securing, and improving the service. This licence ends when you or we delete the content or your account, except where limited retention is described in our Privacy Policy (for example for safety, moderation, or legal reasons).

You are responsible for the content you post. You confirm that you have the rights to everything you upload, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights. Content you place on your profile will be visible to other members; messages are visible to the people in the conversation and to our moderation team when a report is made. If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them without restriction or compensation.

5. Community Rules and Acceptable Use

Alternative has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. Do not misgender, out, fetishize, degrade, harass, threaten, or discriminate against anyone. Do not post nudity or sexually explicit content, content involving minors, or content that promotes violence or illegal activity. Do not impersonate anyone, misrepresent who you are, solicit money or commercial services, spam, or use the service for anything other than meeting people as a genuine member. The Community Policy explains these rules in more detail and forms part of these terms.

We review reports, and we may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or permanently ban accounts that break these rules — without notice where the behaviour is serious. You can report any member from their profile or from your conversation, and block them at any time.

6. Safety and Interactions with Other Members

You are responsible for your interactions with other members. Alternative does not conduct criminal background checks on members. Verification features, such as selfie verification and location check-ins, are assistive signals and are not a guarantee of anyone's identity, location, or intentions. Use good judgment, review our safety guidance, and if you are ever in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. 7. Purchases, Subscriptions and Virtual Items

Alternative offers an optional subscription (Alternative+) and one-off virtual items such as Boosts and Nudges. Purchases in the app are billed by Apple or Google through your app store account, and their terms also apply. Subscriptions renew automatically for successive periods of the same length at the price shown at purchase, until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period in your app store settings; deleting the app or your Alternative account does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by the app stores under their policies; where a purchase is consumed (for example a used Boost), it cannot be returned except where the law requires.

Virtual items are a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to features inside the service. They have no monetary value, are not redeemable for money, and are forfeited if your account is deleted or permanently banned for breaking these terms.

8. Account Deletion and Termination

You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → My account → Delete account. Deletion permanently removes your account, profile, photos, matches, and messages, subject to the limited retention described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, our Community Policy, or the law, or to protect our members or the service. Sections of these terms that by their nature should survive termination — including the content licence for retained data, disclaimers, and dispute terms — survive it.

9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

Alternative is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service, and we make no guarantees about matches, compatibility, or the conduct, identity, or intentions of any member, on or off the service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Alternative will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for the conduct of members, and our total liability for claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim and 100 US dollars. Some places do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you; nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Governing Law and Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws that apply where the Alternative operating company responsible for your region is established, unless the law where you live requires otherwise — in which case your local mandatory consumer protections still apply. Before bringing a formal claim, please contact support so we can try to resolve the issue informally.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. When changes are material, we will give you reasonable notice — for example in the app or by email — before they take effect. Continuing to use Alternative after the changes take effect means you accept them.
